About Our Name

Stone Celt

Our chapter is named after prehistoric stone ax heads called celts, (Pronounced selts).  Seventy celts were unearthed from a hillside in O'Fallon, IL back in 2001.  O'Fallon is the location of our sponsoring dealership Frieze Harley-Davidson.  The celts are said to be 900 years old and belonged to the pre-Columbian residents of the Mississippi Valley.  Mounted in a wooden handle, the stone material used to make celts had to be strong and durable. Celts come in many shapes and sizes to perform different tasks.  In later times, the stone celt appears to have functioned less and less as an axe and more as a fighting weapon or symbol of authority and power.
